Micah’s Blog 1: Septimus Heap
I’m planning on doing blogs on books like Magyk, Flyte and Physik. They’re great books, some of my favorites. They’re written by Angie Sage. Magyk is a fascinating book. I loved it!MAGYK <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>Sarah and Silas Heap have 7 sons when the seventh goes missing. They search for him to no avail. While searching Silas finds a baby girl and takes care of her. Marcia (The ExtraOrdinary wizard) (The most important wizard)finds out that the baby is the princess.About 10 years pass.Marcia comes to the Heaps. She takes Jenna to her room in the wizard tower.Jenna rescues a boy named boy 412 (he came from the army) who had fainted from the cold and she takes him. An assassin is sent to kill Jenna, the princess. The heaps are at the wizard tower with Jenna when the assassin comes. They jump in the garbage chute and escape. Their friend, Sally Mulin, runs a cafe and they tell her what’s happened. She says they should go to their aunts house in Marram Marshes The evil dude (called the Hunter) sees Sally Mulin watching him. She won’t tell him anything, so he burns down her cafe.Marcia had given Sally her Keepsafe so Sally was ok. A trader went to the hunter and said that the Heaps had gone to the Marram Marshes. The Hunter goes to the marshes.412 comes with the Heaps, to their aunts house. There they make shield bugs and while running away from the Hunter. 412 falls down a hole and finds a Dragon ring. He shows Jenna the hole and they discover a Dragon boat. Their aunt erases the Hunters memory and sends him away. DomDaniel, a Necromancer, who took over the wizard tower while Marcia was gone comes to the marshes. Silas recives a message that Simon has run away. Jenna, 412, and Nikko sneak aboard the necromancer’s ship and free Marcia who had been captured. They destroy his ship and the apprentice begs to let himself stay but Marcia kills him. Later she shows them the apprentices’s insides witch were laying on the beach. He had been consumed. (When you go into someone and control them. Marcia askes 412 if he would like to be her apprentice, and he agrees, she then gives him a limited Flyte charm. Later in the hole, witch leads to a tunnel, that 412 found Jenna gives 412 a special stone.Later they have an apprentice supper. Marcia says she will tell him 1 thing and he says he wants to know who he is. Aunt Zelda scrys in a pool of water, and it turns out 412 is actually Septimus Heap!!!! The Hunter is gone. All is well!! The End!!:)

Hi Micah
I am looking forward to reading what you have to say about this series of books. I’ve read Magyk, out loud to you and Li of course but I have not read the others. Now I will be able to read about the books that you read. This is going to be fun.

Hi Micah! It sounds like you love that series – what is it that appeals to you so much? Are they even better than Kenneth Opel’s books?
Did you notice that there is a contest to enter at McNally Robinson around Kenneth Opel?
I’m reading an interesting junior novel right now, Micah. It’s about a boy who’s brother has just shipped out to the war in Afganistan. The young boy is going through typical teen stuff at home – friend trouble, school trouble -but his over-riding concern is over his brother. I’m not finished the novel but I am very afraid his brother is going to be killed. The last email his brother sent was interrupted by a big explosion!
Interestingly, the boy is learning to play piano, and it is his passion! He also finds it consoling. In that way he reminds me of Liam. What would you say your passion is, Micah?

Wow Micah, what a great blog about your book! I feel like I really would like to read it now! I really like the term ‘to no avail’ ! Good use of language!
I’m reading a REALLY good book now, although it’s a book for adults. It takes place in an unnamed Central American country, where a whole village has pooled their money to send a boy your age to the City after his mom has died. It’s interesting to see this child from the jungle adjusting to the city and seeing some of his beliefs. His character isn’t as developed as I would like to see, but there are other interesting things about this story.

Hi Micah what an excellent post! Your summary brought the whole book back to me. It was a good read but I must disagree about the Kenneth Oppal books. His books about the airship (Airborn and Skybreaker) where truly innovative and exciting, especially Skybreaker where they were trying to get the ghost ship before the thieves. Oppel’s bat series left me cold. As an adult I don’t like books that have animals as characters.

Great blog Micah! I really enjoyed this book as well. I haven’t had a chance to read Flyte because it is usually signed out of the library. I may have to wait until summer when all of the books are returned!! I look forward to your other book reviews and hearing your reviews of French selections in our book club.
